i have no idea how this bike was damaged. somehow only the non driveside seat stay was damaged at all and the dents were on the top of the tube. i first cut the stay into 3 pieces so it was easier to heat and remove. when i cut the bottom section the section of tube with the dent sprang up about 2 cm. i heated the joints to melt the brass and then remove the tubes(did this outside so as not to breath the fumes from the paint) i then cleaned off the excess brass and paint so i could match the stay. i checked the dropout alignment before cutting and matching the stay. once the stay was matched to the other, i checked the alignment again before brazing in the new stay.
